BMW M850i Takes on Lexus LC500 and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat in Intense Drag Race

Despite BMW enthusiasts’ arguments that the M850i1 is not a true M car, this model still packs a powerful V8 engine with plenty of torque. Though it is one of the few remaining eight-cylinder performance vehicles that use “pure” gasoline engines outside of supercars, the M850i holds its own in a series of drag races against other sporty machines with different V8 engines. In these races, we see it go up against the Lexus LC5002, which features a naturally aspirated engine, and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, which is equipped with a supercharged powertrain.

Of the three cars, only the BMW 8 Series3 has all-wheel drive, as the other two are rear-wheel drive. With 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque from a 4.4L twin-turbo engine, the M850i packs more power than the 471 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque from the 5.0L engine in the gorgeous LC. Despite this, the BMW coupe falls short in terms of power compared to the 717 hp and 656 lb-ft of torque from the American muscle car’s massive 6.2L engine. All three cars are equipped with automatic transmissions, with eight gears in the case of the M850i and Hellcat, and two additional gears in the LC.

The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe4 is a powerful, high-performance luxury coupe that weighs over 4,000 pounds. At 4,478 pounds (2,031 kilograms), the BMW is 42 lbs (19 kg) heavier than its competitors, the Dodge and the Lexus. Despite this weight difference, however, the BMW outperforms its rivals in a drag race, rocketing off the line and quickly gaining an advantage.

The BMW M850i was recently put to the test in a roll race against its electric Competition sibling, and it turned out that the combustion-powered grand tourer came out on top.

Despite the fact that launch control is taken out of the equation in a roll race, the M850i was still much faster than its EV counterpart. This is believed to be due to the fact that BMW will reportedly simplify the 8 Series for its third iteration, retaining only the more practical Gran Coupe and selling it exclusively as an electric vehicle.
