Avoid Writing Terrible Blog Posts: 10 Ways To Choose A Good Blog Post Topic

Unfortunately, writing a good blog post is not always easy. A lot of factors come into play and many times it can be hard to keep track of everything. However, there are definitely ways you can improve your chances of creating a great blog post that people will actually read and enjoy. Here is my list of 10 ways you should follow in order to write a great blog post.

1) Find an Idea You Enjoy

If you have no idea what your blog is going to be about, you are going to have a very hard time writing a good article about it. So the first thing you need to do with your new blog is find out what kind of articles people would want to read. Once you’ve done that, write about stuff that you yourself enjoy. If you are writing about something that bores the hell out of you, no one is going to want to read it!

2) Be Unique

There are millions of people blogging so being unique is definitely not an easy task. However, if your content isn’t unique, there is no way you will attract an audience. Be original and don’t write about stuff that everyone else has written about before.

3) Make it Educational

This is especially true if your blog post is one of those longer ones (over 1000 words). People do not want to read something that does not help them in some way. In fact, they would probably prefer to read something very short and straight-to-the-point which tells them exactly what is in it for them. Of course, if your blog post is not over 1000 words long then people will accept a little less of that “educational/value” stuff and expect just a small portion instead of a whole.

4) Know What You’re Talking About

This is the most important part of writing a blog post. If you are not 100% sure of what you are talking about, no one will believe or trust your blog post and that is how you lose readers. So make sure everything you write is accurate and true because if it’s not, people will call you out on it.

5) Give Details

People love details. I’ve read many blog posts that are just way too short to even get their point across so why bother reading them? People love all the tiny little details about everything so adding more details to your post takes it up a notch in terms of good content.

6) Make it Short, But Give Enough Detail

You don’t want your blog posts to be 1000 words each (that would definitely bore your readers to tears). On the other hand, if you make them too short then people won’t believe that they will get what you are promising them. They need enough detail that makes sure they know what will be in the post and how long it will take them to read it. Plus, you don’t want your readers to feel like they’ve been cheated out of something good if they read your content.

7) Keep It Interesting

Don’t write posts that are very boring because as explained above, people won’t enjoy them as much as they could. You want your readers to get excited about reading your blog post because it is entertaining, not boring them to death by making them read every single detail of every single thing you are writing about!

8) Be Informative

This is what people come here for (I hope). This means you should actually be telling them something they don’t already know or something that can help them in some way. You should also include stats and other information to make your post more believable because if people don’t think you are really an expert on the subject, they won’t be interested in following it any further.

9) Offer Value

Don’t write blog posts unless there is some value for the reader. You are here to give them something that they can’t get anywhere else so you have got to be different and offer more than the rest of the people in your field. This means not just telling them how great your product or service is but giving them statistics, helpful tips, etc., anything that will make sure they think “Wow, I didn’t know that until now!”.

10) Ask Questions

This is a great technique to hook your reader’s attention and keep them reading. Ask a question at the beginning of your blog post and have an answer (or answers!) at the end of it. If you want, you can even ask multiple questions to make sure they are engaged throughout your entire post.

Does it have to be very long?

No, but people will feel like they are getting something out of the post if they read at least some of it. Opinion-based blog posts can run on shorter word count but you will still want some good content in there.

What is informative about my post?

You are informing them of how to avoid writing terrible blog posts. Your goal is to make sure they don’t end up writing something boring, bland, etc., so you are putting them on the right track!

How do I avoid writing terrible blog posts?

You want to be informative, short and interesting. Not only that but you have to actually be sure what you are talking about so people will believe you know what you’re talking about! By being interesting, they will keep reading because if the post is too boring or too bland then why should they read it?

At The End Of The Day

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to make your blog posts interesting and engaging. The key is finding the right balance between information and entertainment. Choose a subject that speaks to your audience or an issue they care about so they stay engaged with your content for as long as possible.
